Lisa Bertain is a seasoned trial attorney and strategic legal advisor with more than 35 years of experience guiding clients through complex litigation, regulatory matters, and high-stakes business challenges. As a first-chair trial lawyer, Lisa has tried to verdict more than 20 jury trials, as well as numerous bench trials and arbitrations before JAMS, AAA, and FINRA. Lisa also has extensive experience in class action litigation, serving as lead trial counsel in more than 15 class actions and as co-counsel in numerous others. She is known for developing practical, business-focused strategies that position matters for successful resolution—whether through trial, arbitration, or negotiated outcomes.
Prior to returning to private practice, Lisa served as Deputy General Counsel and Interim General Counsel of a Fortune 260 company, where she helped guide the company through periods of growth, transformation, and risk. This in-house leadership experience gives her a distinctive perspective on client priorities and enables her to align legal strategy with broader business objectives.
Lisa’s practice areas span a wide range of industries, including financial services, technology, healthcare, energy, and others. She regularly handles matters involving claims of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, discrimination and harassment, wage and hour violations, trade secrets misappropriation, whistleblower retaliation, and data privacy violations, and other statutory violations (such as FCRA and CIPA). She represents clients in state and federal courts across the country, as well as in arbitration, and is admitted to practice in all California courts, the Ninth Circuit and the Eastern District of Missouri and Northern District of Illinois.
Prior to her in-house role, Lisa spent 25 years as a partner at Keesal, Young & Logan, where she led the defense of Fortune 500 companies in complex individual and class action litigation and counseled clients on sensitive business and employment matters. She also served on the firm’s Executive, Compensation, and Diversity & Inclusion Committees.
Lisa began her legal career in the California Attorney General’s office and later as a Deputy District Attorney for Alameda County, California, where she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases.
Lisa brings a trial lawyer’s discipline, a business leader’s perspective, and a relentless focus on results to every engagement. Whether navigating bet-the-company litigation, managing enterprise risk, or advising on sensitive internal matters, Lisa is a trusted advocate who is prepared to take cases through trial while never losing sight of her clients’ broader objectives.
