Dowd Bennett LLP was formed in 2006 by Edward L. Dowd, Jr. and James F. Bennett. Ed Dowd served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri. Jim Bennett served as a Supreme Court law clerk to the Hon. Anthony M. Kennedy. Prior to forming their new firm, Ed and Jim were partners in the litigation department at Bryan Cave LLP in St. Louis.
Our practice is focused on complex civil and criminal litigation. In our first 18 months in operations we tried two of the largest cases in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. In the first, our lawyers won a $36 million verdict in a four-week trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. In the second, our lawyers prevailed in defending a $100 million professional negligence and fraud case brought by the St. Louis transit authority against four engineering firms. The case was the longest-running trial in the history of St. Louis county.
The firm, now with eight lawyers, represents clients in litigation -- and does nothing else. We are prepared to vigorously represent clients at all phases of a potential dispute, up through trial and appeal. Since its formation, the firm has represented some of the most recognized names in business. Our philosophy is to learn the nature of the dispute as quickly as possible, formulate with our clients a strategy for the matter, and then aggressively pursue that strategy. |
