Structural Polymer Group Ltd. et al. v. Zoltek, Inc. et al.

In November 2006, our lawyers tried to verdict a four-week jury trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The firm, along with Bryan Cave, represented Structural Polymer Group, a company based in the United Kingdom. The defendant was Zoltek, a St. Louis-based company traded on NASDAQ that had failed to fulfill a carbon fiber filament supply contract with Structural Polymer at the same time it was soliciting orders to supply the same product to other customers.  Ed Dowd and Jim Bennett handled voir dire, the majority of witnesses on direct examination, cross-examined all Zoltek witnesses, and presented closing argument. The jury awarded our client $36 million verdict on Structural Polymer’s claims against Zoltek and further found against Zoltek on its counterclaims against Structural Polymer.  An amended judgment of $21 million was later upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
