Dowd Bennett Sponsors 2014 St. Louis Walk to Defeat ALS®

About 3,700 people turned out to Forest Park on Saturday, June 28th, to take part in the annual Walk to Defeat ALS®, which raises funds to sustain free patient care and support research.  Saturday’s event, which was organized by The ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter, raised over $380,000.

With close to 60 team members, Team Tammy Hardy was an integral part of the Walk to Defeat ALS® this year.  The team walks each year in memory of Tammy Hardy, sister of Dowd Bennett partner Kelly J. H. Murrie, who lost her battle with ALS in November of 2008.  Dowd Bennett was a major sponsor of this great event, helping Team Tammy Hardy raise more than $28,000.

“It’s only because of the incredible support we receive from the community and from sponsors like Dowd Bennett that we are able to continue to provide care services and enhance the quality of life for those individuals and families living with ALS,” said Maureen Hill, President/CEO of the Chapter.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a condition that attacks brain cells and erodes muscle use.  There is no cure for ALS, and patients are usually given two to five years to live after they have been diagnosed with it.  Military veterans are twice as likely to die from ALS, but the connection is unknown.
