Dowd Bennett Supports First Amendment Clinic at WashU Law School in St. Louis

Dowd Bennett has contributed $150,000 to the First Amendment Clinic at WashU Law School in St. Louis.  The Clinic’s professor of practice and director is Lisa Hoppenjans.  Hoppenjans began her legal career at Dowd Bennett before moving on to WashU and launching the First Amendment Clinic in 2019.

According to a news release from WashU, the First Amendment Clinic, “provides pro bono legal assistance to individuals and organizations facing issues involving free speech, free press, free assembly and petition rights.  WashU Law students work directly with clients and take on experiential training opportunities, including drafting court filings, conducting depositions, participating in mediation, and assisting with oral arguments.”

“We couldn’t be prouder of our connection to Lisa Hoppenjans and what she has created,” said founding partner Jim Bennett.  “The First Amendment Clinic is another way that we at Dowd Bennett can support a cause that makes a difference to the St. Louis community.”
